I attended Cabrillo Jr. College for three semesters and then got a position with the County Bank of Santa Cruz, working for many of the branches from Head Office to Eastside then Westside, Capitola Branch, then switched to Bank of America at 41st & Capitola.

I met my husband Joe Hill (he graduated from SLV in Felton, CA) while working at the bank. We met in the vault (often – LOL). I worked filing check, then transferred to the Control Department posting the General Ledger (before computer) for Head office. We got married in 1965. Since he was a teller supervisor I had to move out of the Control Dept. (bank rules!) So I trained as a teller. When kid number three came it cost more for babysitting than I got paid, so I became a full time mother. In 1979 with kids, 2, 4, 7 and 9 years we decided to move to the Sierras where we have been ever since. We don’t trust anyone under 4,000 ft…LOL

Joe sold real estate, cars, and then got a great job at Sequoia Woods Golf and Country Club as Manager, where he learned how to produce music concerts. In 1997 Joe produced a Johnny Cash concert in Oakdale, CA at their fairgrounds. Many years later he went to the Red Dog Lodge as Manager in the Bear Valley Ski Area…until they sold out. Joe was ready to retire , but even after two knee replacements on the same knee, he still works as a guard at the gated community of Forest Meadows here in Arnold two days a week. I was office manager for Lake Mont Pinesl Homeowners Association for 18 years and am now retired and working on my Ebay store – check me out at gerisbookcloset.com (My Ebay name is Skitterbite).

I am still in contact with a few alumni. I have fond memories of singing in A Capella and Glee Club (not as popular as Glee is now, but I loved it) I also remember walking over to McDonalds a lot, back when they had only served 1M. I not so fondly remember climbing that dang hill every day after PE. I remember Ms. Fitzgerald and Mr. Olin for English, my favorite classes.

I was one of those kids who rode the bus in from the mountains. I was pretty shy but still a bit boy crazy, and only an average student. I never got to go to a school dance as it was not something my strict father allowed. All in all I have some great memories…met a few great kissers I feel lucky then and now. I have been married almost 47 years to the same man…an amazing feat in itself.

My only real vice now is playing Texas Hold ‘Em Tournaments at the local Indian Casinos. I have a great faith in God that has helped me my whole life.
